- Principal Accompanist/Instructor
Description
The Jacksonville Children’s Chorus (JCC) is seeking a skilled and dedicated Full-Time Accompanist/Instructor to join our team. This individual will play a vital role in supporting JCC’s mission of providing high-quality choral music education to children in Northeast Florida. The ideal candidate is a versatile musician with strong piano and/or organ skills, excellent collaborative abilities, and a passion for working with young singers.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
- Accompaniment for JCC Choirs
- Serve as the primary accompanist for all JCC choirs during rehearsals, performances, and tours.
- Collaborate closely with conductors to prepare and deliver engaging choral experiences for singers and audiences.
- Provide sight-singing instruction during weekly rehearsals and offer individualized coaching when necessary.
- Rehearse and coach soloists, preparing smaller groups for run-out concerts, and education, and outreach projects.
- Online Music Theory Instruction
- Coordinate and coach online music theory programs for JCC singers, ensuring alignment with educational objectives.
- Provide individualized guidance and feedback to help singers strengthen their musicianship skills.
- Leadership
- In the absence of the Artistic Director, the accompanist may lead choirs in rehearsal.
- Assist the Artistic Director with concert planning and conduct auditions and evaluations.
- Teach Preschool Music Classes
- Lead engaging, age-appropriate music classes for preschool-aged children in both in-person and online settings, introducing basic musical concepts through singing, movement, and rhythm activities.
- Develop lesson plans and implement teaching strategies to foster an early love for music.
- Camps and Workshops Direct and accompany JCC summer camps and workshops.
- Program Support Assist program staff with duties including, but not limited to, ordering and distributing sheet music, rehearsal and performance preparations, coordinating with and hiring instrumentalists, and providing program notes and scripts for performances.
- Community Engagement
- Act as a musical ambassador for JCC, fostering positive relationships with community organizations and local audiences.

This position may perform other duties as required to support the JCC operation.
Rehearsal Schedule
Tuesday: 5:00 PM to 8:30 PM.
Thursday: 5:00 PM to 8:30 PM.
Saturday: 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM (approximately 1-2 times per month).
Sunday: 2:00PM to 5:00 PM (approximately once per month).
Additional rehearsals, performances, preschool classes, and events as scheduled.
Compensation and Benefits
Salary: $60,000-$65,000 annually.
Benefits: Full-time benefits package, including health insurance, paid time off, long and short-term disability insurance, 401k eligible and professional development opportunities.
Qualifications
- Required:
- Proficiency as a pianist; organ skills are preferred.
- Experience accompanying choral ensembles or working in a collaborative setting.
- Strong sight-reading skills and ability to play a wide range of musical styles.
- Familiarity with online music theory instruction and software (e.g., MusicTheory.net, , MusicAce, SmartMusic).
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Preferred:
- Degree in Music (Bachelor’s or higher) with a focus on piano, organ, or collaborative performance.
- Previous experience working with children’s choirs or youth music programs.
- Experience teaching early childhood or preschool music classes
