- Part-Time Choral and Voice Accompanist
Description
We are seeking a skilled, flexible, and enthusiastic Part-Time Choral and Voice Accompanist to support our choirs, musical theatre class, and BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts) audition study programs. The ideal candidate will have a strong musical background, with the ability to provide accompaniment for a wide variety of styles and skill levels, ranging from beginner to advanced students. This position requires a collaborator who can seamlessly work with singers of varying abilities and styles, offering musical support during rehearsals, classes, and private coaching sessions.
Requirements
Accompaniment for Chorus Rehearsals:
Provide piano accompaniment for weekly chorus rehearsals for varying levels of singers, from beginner to advanced. Accompany school concerts.
Ability to teach students independently from Choir Director as needed.
Play a diverse repertoire including classical, contemporary, and choral music.
Collaborate with the chorus director to ensure musical interpretations and tempo align with the rehearsal goals.
Strong score reading skills required.
Rehearsal Accompanist/Lead Keyboard Spring Musical (a supplemental payment will be issued for this responsibility)Provide accompaniment for musical rehearsals in tandem with the Music Director.
Ability to teach students independently from the MD as needed.
Lead pit keyboard player for the musical.
Strong score reading skills required.
Spring Musical is Mid December through early March
Musical Theatre Class Support:
Accompany musical theatre classes, including vocal warm-ups, technique exercises, and repertoire development.
Assist students with musicality, rhythm, and interpretation.
Provide as needed support for the choreography and dance components of class.
Play a wide range of musical styles, from classic Broadway to contemporary musical theatre.
College Audition Portfolio Prep:
Provide accompaniment for individual BFA/BM audition preparation sessions, including both classical and musical theatre pieces.
Work with students on perfecting audition pieces, focusing on timing, phrasing, and musicality.
Help students develop their skills in performing with accompaniment and adapting to the nuances of live music.
Collaboration and Communication:
Work closely with instructors, directors, and students to ensure rehearsals and classes run smoothly.
Maintain open lines of communication with all faculty members regarding repertoire, rehearsal schedules, and any specific musical requests.
Attend required rehearsals and sessions punctually and with a positive, collaborative attitude.
Other Duties as Assigned:
Assist with any other musical tasks related to performances or events.
Occasionally perform as part of performances or public events when required.
