
Description
The Conductor of the Me2/Boston Chorus in Boston, MA will report directly to the Executive Director of the Me2/ organization, Caroline Whiddon. The Conductor is responsible for weekly rehearsals between September – May and selection of music for 3 different programs to be performed twice each (a total of six performances each season). Because this new ensemble launches mid-season, the Chorus hopes to begin rehearsing in March and give inaugural performances in May before taking a summer break.
- Lead weekly 2-hour rehearsals (evening TBD) in a Boston-based location
- Actively recruit members for this new choral program
- Communicate via email with chorus members as needed each week
- Nurture an atmosphere of mentoring and support within the chorus membership. Fully commit to cultivating a warm and inclusive rehearsal and performance environment.
- Apply a social justice approach and equity lens in all aspects of work
- Select music to be rehearsed and performed each season
- Lead as many as six performances in both traditional and non-traditional venues each season
- Coordinate scheduling of performances and selection of venues with Me2/’s Executive Director
- Participate in media interviews as requested
- Provide vision & leadership as Me2/ develops strategic goals for this new program
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Experienced choral director with a music Bachelor’s Degree or higher.
- Preferred minimum of 5 years’ experience in choral conducting
- Knowledge of community chorus repertoire
- Ability to lead a chorus membership that includes musicians with a wide range of age and ability levels.
- Skills necessary to communicate effectively with a diverse group of musicians, including many with mental health diagnoses.
- Ability to select music and conduct rehearsals that will challenge more advanced musicians without alienating those who are less experienced.
- Should be enthusiastic about leading performances in both traditional and non-traditional venues, including hospitals, gymnasiums and correctional facilities.
- Must be willing to invest time and energy in a future for the Me2/Boston Chorus that includes artistic growth and program expansion
