Description
The Director of Music will be a skilled organist with experience leading worship services which generally hue to the Revised Common Lectionary.
Qualifications/Skills:
Christian faith
Music degree
Deep familiarity with hymnody of the church both traditional and contemporary
Training in choral direction
Knowledge/experience with orchestral instrumentalists preferred
Knowledge of Classical Music Literature, Liturgical worship
Accomplished and expressive playing of hymns which engage and inspire the congregation in song
Direction and leadership of choirs (chancel, bells, children, youth) or similar ensembles
Accompaniment of choirs and other musicians

Requirements
Our ministry context requires that the ideal candidate be deeply versed in tradition, yet be flexible and creative in the expression of music.
- Plan, lead, and accompany (instrumental, choral, corporate) for each Sunday morning worship gathering. (Enhancement of congregational singing is a larger goal as the congregation is understood to be the real and greatest choir)
- Plan, (Provide) music for all Special Services of the Church Year. These Special Services shall include, but not be limited to: (i) Ash Wednesday (ii) Maundy Thursday, (iii) Good Friday, (iv) Easter Sunrise, (v) Easter, (vi) Christmas Eve.
- Organize, promote, and supervise various concerts and programs throughout the year to include Seven Sundays: A Celebration of Music in Worship.
- Support church events where music is included (Christmas Dinner, Maundy Thursday, etc).
- Introduce new music in worship that is theologically appropriate and culturally contextual.
- Update and maintain the music library.
- Manage funds provided by budget to enhance worship on Easter, Christmas Eve, and other services and events.
- Increase diversity of music styles, instruments, creative arts used on Sunday morning.
- Recruit and disciple others to participate in the Ministry of Music.
- Participate in the life and ministry of the Reformed Church of the Tarrytowns.
